Not every child can hear their parents’ loving call, nor can every child speak of their love to their parents. For families with children with hearing loss, the sound of their child saying “dad” or “mom” is the most anticipated and touching sound.
Established 25 years ago, Children Hearing’s Foundation has helped over 5,000 children with hearing loss to learn to listen and speak.
This year, the foundation’s proposal for “preschool hearing screening, early detection, and early auditory-verbal therapy” was recognized by the Spreading Good Award. Currently, the foundation has established branches in Taipei, Kaohsiung, Yilan, and Zhongli, and provides services such as “auditory-verbal tele-practice sessions”, “home teaching and counseling”, and “rural workstations” to bring early auditory-verbal therapy to rural areas. In addition, in order to cultivate early intervention professionals for children with hearing loss, the foundation has collaborated with Mackay Medical College and Chung Yuan Christian University to offer courses in auditory-verbal therapy and application, training teachers, and combining love and expertise to work together for children with hearing loss.
Children with hearing loss also deserve to be nurtured and have unlimited futures.
According to statistics, for every thousand newborns in Taiwan, three have hearing loss. Fortunately, 95% of these children still have residual hearing that can be utilized. With the assistance of hearing assistive devices and early intervention sessions, children with hearing loss can still speak like hearing children.
With the one-to-one auditory-verbal sessions provided by Children’s Hearing Foundation, children with hearing loss may also speak and listen, chat with friends, attend school, and use the phone, showing their unlimited potential. They strive to speak for themselves and for the world, serving as television program hosts, filming hearing health promotion videos, recording audio books, and even singing charity singles, confidently demonstrating their unique talents and abilities.
With your support and ours, we can be the pioneers of charity and kindness.
Aiming for “let there be no children with hearing loss in Taiwan who cannot speak”, Children Hearing’s Foundation is deeply rooted in professional knowledge and skills for early auditory-verbal therapy, actively sharing successful experiences. With the support of the Spreading Good Award, the foundation will develop a preschool hearing screening scale based on empirical research, establish a knowledge base for early intervention personnel, and especially target today’s environment of headphones and mobile phones to raise awareness of hearing loss and promote a friendly attitude towards communication. We will serve as pioneers of charity and kindness, dedicated to promoting altruism.
