Professional Knowledge and Ability Training Courses

The Yilan Center of Children’s Hearing Foundation held a one day training course on 14^th March, 2020 with the topic of“Getting to Know Hearing Loss and the Needs of Hearing Loss Students on Campus.” This course aims to prepare schoolteachers with the knowledge and strategy of instructing students with hearing loss. Although there’s still concern with the covid-19 pandemic, it doesn’t stop the teachers from learning how to let the students integrate smoothly on campus. There are 39 participants in the training course.

In the morning, the audiologist Chang, Yen-Ming talked about hearing disease and hearing aids. The audiologist explained the causes of hearing loss and different types of hearing checks in an understandable way. He also talked about how to interpret audiogram and how to operate auditory aids. There were two children with hearing loss that day for the teachers to practice taking off and putting on the assistive devices so the teachers can be more familiar with it.

In the afternoon, the auditory verbal specialist Huan, Yu-Wen talked about the effective teaching strategies and cases to let teachers understand the dilemma with students with hearing loss. Specific examples were also provided for the teachers to apply in their classrooms. Besides, the auditory verbal specialist also shared the hearing health education sections of CHF’s website, so that the teachers can use interesting teaching methods on the students, and also learned how to get along with each other. The teachers participated keenly and actively ask questions.

The participant said they got to know hearing loss and hearing aids during the training course. Also, they learned the skills and tips of how to interact with students with hearing loss. It is hoped that the training course will help teachers build a more friendly environment for the student with hearing loss.
